considering a new MB build. Need advice.

Hello, I'm a long time boat owner, but new to the MB product. My current boat, a 2014 Nautique 210 has been great. Bought it new from local dealer. 350 hours, pretty much issue free, knock on wood. I'm not mechanically inclined at all and was thinking about trading my boat in for a new one.. The new Nautiques are completely out of my price range and a new MB dealer has popped up locally. They've offered me a good trade on my 210 and I'm looking at a 22" Tomcat to build.. A few problems.. 1- the new sales guy doesn't have experience with the MB lineup.. Do the 22' classic and the Alpha surf the same?I'd prefer to stay classic if possible. I'm told they are on the same running board? We'll use it 95% surfing and I can't go longer than 22' for storage issues. 2-My bank has warned me about MB's potentially not holding their value like my Nautique has? thoughts 3. How is the overall quality of these boats after years of use?

Wondering if we should make this move while my current boat has a high trade value, or ride it out in my Nautique 210.

Thanks guys.

  • I know on the 23 foot B52 the running platforms on the Alpha and Classic are the same and so I would assume that's the case with the Tomcat as well
  • I'm sure MB's won't hold their perceived value as well as a Nautique mainly due to brand recognition, but with the way new boat prices continue to increase every year I don't think this is as big of an issue as in the past, I bought my MB new in May of 2020 and pretty confident I could sell it for close to what I paid for it today
  • This is my 3rd summer with my boat and I have about 210 hours on it and other than a front bag ballast pump going out I have had 0 issues, and like you said knock on wood

I had a 2014 F22, now I have a B52 Alpha with the 575 motor(love it). I almost went with the F22 Alpha. Never gave the Classic a thought so I didn't ask if the running surface was the same. I felt it looks to much like the older boats and thus wouldn't hold its value long term as well as the Alpha(my opinion). I think the Alpha for the walkthrough is much better (in my opinion the classic walk thru look like an after thought), the rear facing seats are awesome for lounging and it has more ballast. I do like the interior design a little better on the classic, but both are not as good as my older 2014 interior, the interior quality has dropped a bit on all the boats I have seen at the dealer.

i had a '17 classic and now '22 alpha. i wouldnt change it for the world. My '17 classic held value just fine so I wouldnt worry about that. My understanding is the b52 classic and alpha are the same for wave. the tomcats are different but still great wave but its been shown the b52 has better waves

With regards to resale...

Completely depends on region. In my area, the MB maintains value commensurate to ANY boat out there. It is a very well known product. However, I can see some areas where MB's have less residual value than Nautique.

Also...

If you are looking at the 22 footer...

Big difference between Classic and Alpha.  Get the Alpha, it's a huge 22 footer and the wave is much better IMO.
