SurfNewb
I just replaced the stock sea strainer with an Indmar Strainer Pro with the built in flush kit. It took all of 10 minutes and was really easy. The one thing I noticed was no seacock (shut off valve) on the intake hose. Does anyone know what is best for adding one? In-line or one with a flange? The idea would be to shut it off when hooked up to a hose while out of the water for maintenance and wintering.
bloodiestcadaver
I think you could easily find something at the local hardware store to work perfect SurfNewb
BTown801
Changing my sea strainer to that one and adding a seacock is on my to do list. It’s insane to me that MB doesn’t put them on from the factory. The one thing I read about these a while back is to make sure that they are full inside diameter so they don’t restrict. I had to close the seacock on my father in laws Axis last week, that boat wanted to go to the bottom of the lake.
SurfNewb
@BTown801that is scary about the axis last week! I had the same concern on full inside diameter to not restrict any flow. We are headed out of town next week for a month so this will be a July project to finish for me. let me know if you find a seacock and I will do the same. It can’t be that hard to find right? BTown801
Finally stopped procrastinating and put the seacock on my boat. These are the parts I used: 1-1/4" Barb x 1" Male Pipe (bought from Amazon $16.48) 1-inch FIP x 1-inch FIP Full Port Threaded Brass Ball Valve (bought from local sprinkler shop $28) I also replaced the stainless steel hose clamps. It only took me about 20 minutes to install it. The hose has silicone on it and it took some twisting back and forth and pulling to get it off (It only took me a minute, I am good at it. 😜 ) MB should be putting these on at the factory. tonni
I replaced the stock strainer with an Indmar Strainer Pro with the built-in flush kit and the install took about 10 minutes. I noticed there isn’t a seacock on the intake hose and I’m wondering what’s the better option to add, an in-line or one with a flange style Brass Intake Strainer? The goal is to be able to shut it off when running on a hose for maintenance or winterizing.
Raisin' Cain
I ordered the same strainer this week. I've always been concerned with the stock strainer and the cheap plastic fittings on it. One of them breaks and there's no way to shut it off. I was wondering if the thru hull was threaded, but looks like it is! I guess I need to head to the hardware store.
