Alljakebrah
I am new to boating and recently bought a 2016 MB B52 23’. I took the boat out to the lake for my first trip and noticed for the first half of the day boat was running at 5000 rpms and was barely hitting 18 mph ( 8 adults and 2 kids on boat). after we took a break for about 2 hours. When we got on the boat (same amount of people) I was hitting 28 mph without breaking 4000 RPMs. is there a reason for this? Is it the reduction of gas? Had a full tank and was about half tank when rpms dropped… it was also I little more windy and choppy during the first ride. Could that cause the boat stress to get to speed? oboyskibum
Typically in my experience, If the motor is running fine and the prop isn't cavitating(slipping due to air), it will just be load on the boat, fuel, ballast, people, wind that causes speed and RPM changes. Solid makes sense! Just wanted to make sure I shouldn’t be worried! Appreciate it!

mathemagician44
Or, is your tachometer sticking? Mine reads accurate 90% of the time. Every so often I’ll look down and notice the RPMs much higher than I’d expect. I’d tap the gauge with a finger a few times and it drops ~2500 rpms and behave well the rest of the trip. Just went out this weekend and this is the exact cause I think…. My gauge is all over the place. It was shooting to 7k at 20mph than would randomly drop to 3.5k without engine making any different sounds. i haven’t tried to tap it but at this point it’s not working more often than it is. Not sure if gauge itself is out or maybe a sensor of some sort
