I am looking at purchasing one but want a boat with great surf capabilities. I know the 23' B52 is pretty good but not sure if the 21'6 will be enough boat to kick up a good wake. jbp525 Posted July 6, 2015 Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 breakz77, I'm new to the whole forum world as well as boat ownership. I recently picked up a 2008 MB Sports B52 V 22. I'm assuming that it is the same model as your boat, they just round up the 21'6 to 22... I have a couple of questions: 1. The boat comes with 1800lbs of stock ballast and you indicated that you configure your weight this way: 900# stock ballast on surf side 900# mid boat on surf side 750# front of boat Is that filling one of the stock ballast full, then are you using aftermarket ballast bags to do the midboat and front of boat or are you using people for that weight? 2. Do you recommend pulling the surfer out of the water by the tow point on the boat or from the wake tower? In your picture you are using the tower...in my opinion that would pull the surfer up quicker/easier. (I'm 6'3" and 240lbs) 3. My 2008 does not have a wake plate, does yours and do you recommend it? The dealer around me here in Utah (Reboats) said it would be about $1500.... I'm a total newbie to all of this so excuse my ignorance. Any pointers would be much appreciated. I took our boat out and had a blast but we couldn't get a nice wave for surfing...looking for advice from you and anyone else who can help! Filled right side to half, left side remained empty and had a couple 200 pound riders sit on the right side as well. Wake surf rider went about # 225 riding a 60" board, said that the form and size of our wake was incredible compared to his Malibu with a wake plate and rear ballast. The MB boat hull is designed to roll a wake lip that has a perfect shape on both sides for big "wakeboard" air. This case pushing the right rear down at 12 mph built a wake that was about 4 foot tall with a perfect roll and sweet spot, allowing the rider to ride free of the tow rope. I'm amazed that you only had to fill the right ballast half full to get a great wake. I've filled each side all the way and the wake was a bit choppy and no "nice sweet spot". jschneid Posted July 30, 2015 Report Share Posted July 30, 2015 We bought our MB Sport B52V 22 foot, brand new in 2007, using the same factory prop it came with, a 13.5 x 16 4-blade Acme Brass Prop, the engine is a PCM Excalibur 330 HP V8, we have the perfect pass system and have around 250 hours of run time on it now and use Amsoil Marine 100% synthetic motor oil. Overall performance is outstanding and has never lacked power or throttle control, we also started the wake surf ride using the rope mount on the tower. Once you figure out how to safely load the ballast and position your passengers so that one side of the back of the boat sits lower than the other, you'll have an awesome B52 wake ride. Safety Tip: Heads up to the size of the wake when stopping or turning around to pick-up your rider ... don't want to swamp your boat !!!! When my ballasts are full, will the pumps shut off? How do I know when they are full? I can’t seem to get a crisp enough wake to ride rope free. Any suggestions? 08B52V Posted July 28, 2025 Report Share Posted July 28, 2025 No, the overflow is on both sides of the winshield. You will hear water dumping out of the overflow. Ours makes an awesome wave. Full of gas, both ballast tanks full, no bow weight, and a suck gate. We have both goofy and regular riders in our family of 4. I am 210lbs, ride a P5 diamond 57 and have no issues riding ropeless.
