Pending MB owner with questions

Howdy! I have a deal pending on a (new to me) 2017 B52 21 with the beastly 575 Raptor. Boat has 100 hours on it. Appears flawless in photos.

here are the specs:

Indmar Raptor 6.2L 575 hp Roush Supercarged
MB Built in Ballast
MB Plug and Play Twin 800lb Ballast Bags
MB Switch Surf W/ Cav Plate
Standard Prop - 15 x 14.25 - .105PRO
Gator Step Floor Kit - Plank (Sharkfin)
Heater - Interior
Theater Lights
Heated Drivers seat
Boat Cover
Bimini Top
Tandem Trailer
Stereo
Rear View Mirror

I’ve spent an unhealthy amount of time researching this forum and other inter webs.

A few questions remain unanswered in my searches:

-what years did the motor mount/shaft issues exist

-economical board rack solution compatible with 2017 tower

-does anyone on this forum actually have the 575 super charged motor? If so, likes/dislikes/maintenance issues, etc.

-will I need to sell a kidney to cover the summer fuel bill

-any specific systems/items worth giving extra attention to while conducting my survey/sea trial

-will 15x14.25 prop be appropriate for high elevation lakes (+/- 7000 ft)

-stock stereo with no tower speakers. Any suggestions on a couple descent tower speakers? Would I need to add an amplifier? Is cable routing difficult to run inside of tower

-anyone have dimensions of boat while on trailer in terms of length, width, height...with tower folded down? Trying to determine if it will fit in my garage

-trailer boat with cover on or off? Tower folded down?

-any brand favorites on surfboards/wakeboards for beginner to intermediate abilities

Pretty stoked to join the MB fam if it all checks out! Appreciate any feedback y’all throw back at me!

Thanks,

Matt

I'm still trying to catch my breath over the fact someone put a 575 in a 21 footer!

Not sure the 575 had the motor mount issues.

'17 tower is the same tower they're using today, so any of the board rack options will work on your tower.

We have the 575 in our 2021 24' Tom.  Love the motor! But yes it will chew through more dinosaur remains than the others, but on your 21' it may not have to do much more than idle.  Still can't believe someone put a 575 in a 21 footer??!!

I'd be sure to check every system- lights, pumps, stereo, heater, surf system, anti-cav plate, gauges, and all that on top of everything you can get to on the engine. 100 hours is still puppyish, so you shouldn't have any issues, AS LONG AS the previous owner did their part to take care of end of season items.

Unsure about the prop you mentioned.

You'd love a pair of 10" Exiles for your tower, 4 would even be better!  Yes on the amp, and it's possible the wiring is already in the tower, but if not, yes there will be a pretty steep learning curve to get the tower wired.  Can be done, but probably better to have someone with skills do the work.

Can't speak to the dimensions.  That will be all based on the trailer you have it sitting on.

We always trailer with the boat cover off, unless we're going to be going through some horrendous weather along the way.  Not sure about where the tower fits in the cockpit with the tower down.  If there is no interference you could get a pair of tower trailering supports and travel with it down.  If you travel with it up, and you end up with those Exile speakers with quick releases, you'll definitely travel with the speakers off, and you can leave the tower up.

Boards are so rider specific.  One rider will love theirs, and then not another soul in the boat will want to ride that same board.  There are some really nice boards out there though.  Just be ready to separate yourself from some pretty significant cash reserves.

Enjoy the ride.

Schill38.... Thanks for your input! I would have only thought it would be hard on the cover....didn’t even consider it marring the gelcoat.

Yep there are a bunch of swirl marks, they aren't really noticeable to most people but my OCD sees them every time haha!

I tow with the cover on wrap the edge in saran warp or use blue tape. I have been doing that for years with my 2014 MB and my Nordic Rage before that. No rub marks. I am OCD about the oil, dirt and water that gets in my boat when I have towed with he cover off. I hate having to clean my interior for two hours once I arrive, it only 15-20 with the cover on.  Not to mention one a the few times going coverless because I was in a hurry I lost my actual cover that was in a stuff bag out of my boat the freeway.

I would also trailer with the cover OFF. I left it on once on a 6 hour trip to Lake Powell and have a bunch of annoying rub marks on the bow ughhhh

I trailered with tower down from Northern California to Powell and back. Not one mark the boat. You have to make sure the straps that go under the rubrail and around the boat are super tight.

I thought MB said not to trailer with the tower down. Did that change?

That's what the tower supports are made for.  They are triangles that bolt into the tower bases with the tower down, and support the tower so it doesn't ride on anything.  Without the supports, NEVER tow with the tower down.  With the supports, no problem.  At least on the 23's.  That's why I asked about the positioning of the tower down on the 21's.

With no Boat Show last year for the past 2 years I wasn't able to remember how the tower rode when down on the 21's.

BTW, just curious why the boat isn't coming with two basic board racks?  I'm unaware of any MB ever leaving the factory without at least a pair of the simple 3 slot board racks?

The owner might have ordered it without racks. He lived on a lake and just went back to his dock to get boards when needed.

Also yes you can tow with tower down but must have the triangle supports that bolt it.  I explained all that to the new owner of this awesome boat when we talked.
